Class Prerequisites and General Information
Lifeguarding Course Information:
Prerequisites:
1. Must be 15 years old on or before
the final scheduled session of this course.
2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating
breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates
must swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a
combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands
under the armpits.
4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute,40 seconds. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed. Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with Both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water. Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
Certification Requirements:
■ Attend and participate in all class sessions.
■ Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
■ Demonstrate competency in all required final rescue skill scenarios.
■ Pass both the Section 1—CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
and First Aid and Section 2—Lifeguarding Skills final written exams
with minimum grades of 80 percent
Certificate Issued and Validity Period:
American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED: 2 years

Lifeguarding Instructor Course:
Prerequisites:
■ Be at least 17 years old on or before the last day of the instructor course.
■ Possess one of the following:
-A current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED.
-A current American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid and either an American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or an American Red Cross certificate for CPR/AED for Lifeguards.
-An equivalent certificate from another organization.
■ Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Red Cross.
■ Successfully complete the online Orientation to the Lifeguarding course.
■ Successfully complete the online Lifeguarding Instructor Precourse Exam (80 percent or better).
■ Successfully complete the Precourse Session.
■ Obtain the Lifeguarding Instructor’s Manual and Lifeguarding Manual after you have successfully completed the Precourse Session.

- -Pocket Face mask- For Lifeguarding and cpr courses- a combo mask set is provided free for full lifeguarding and cpr classes. for lifeguarding or cpr review, lifeguarding instructor and cpr challenge courses you can purchase one for $12.00 or bring your own. please note: for Lifeguarding and CPR/aed for the professional rescuer courses, an adult mask with an inlet for supplemental oxygen is required as well as a pediatric (infant mask). We sell only this combo set which meets the course regulations. in addition, for all lifeguarding courses the mask must be in a soft fanny pack or similar packaging that allows the rescuer to attach to themselves.

- -Pen and Paper for any notes- all classes
- -Comfortable clothing for classroom activities- all classes
- -Lunch/meal is optional as there are generally places to eat nearby at our sites
- -For Aquatic classes only- Swim cap-You can buy one on-site if you like but it is required for pool use
- -For Aquatic classes only-Goggles for practice swimming. If wearing contacts I suggest bringing your contact case and extra contact solution.
Appropriate Behavior and attendance Policy: Aquatic Solutions, Inc. strives to maintain a safe and supportive teaching environment for all participants. Disruptive behavior is prohibited in any of our classes. Disruptive behavior is any behavior which Aquatic Solutions, Inc regards as speech or action which 1) is disrespectful, offensive, and/or threatening, 2) interferes with the learning activities of other students, 3) impedes the delivery of instructional services, and/or 4) has a negative impact in any learning environment - including classrooms and aquatic environments. Disruptive behavior includes physically, verbally or psychologically harassing, threatening, or acting abusively toward an instructor, staff member, or toward other students in any activity conducted by Aquatic Solutions, Inc. All classes require full attendance for all scheduled days and hours associated with the class you are registering for.
